And…I’m back on my feet

I was so grateful today to be able to start the Santiago journey, even though it was a day late due to illness. I am thankful for all the kind people who helped me get well and checked on me. We started our journey at about 7:30 AM from Villafranca del Bierzo to O’ Cebreiro which was an 18.5 mile journey with over 3500 feet elevation changes. The weather was mixed between sunny, cloudy, and rainy. What a beautiful sight to start the day with a rainbow. I knew it was a sign from God that all was going to be ok.

And…I’m back on my feet
And…I’m back on my feet
And…I’m back on my feet
And…I’m back on my feet
And…I’m back on my feet
And…I’m back on my feet
And…I’m back on my feet

On the trail

I loved so many things about the journey today. From the animals to the spring wildflowers with lush green scenery. I loved the milking cows with bells!

Eateries

The pilgrims stop at what’s typically called a bar for food and drink along the way. Some are more lively than others. Always grateful to use the water closet here too along the route! There are restaurants as well typically at the inns and alberques where you stop for the night.

Churches

There are numerous opportunities to stop at churches along the way. Beautiful traditional Catholic chapels and I love exploring the intricate details inside. I lit a candle in memory of Brian. Almost every church has statues of St. James seen below. A monastery is also below.

O’ Cebreiro

It was a long day but we finally made it to O’Cebreiro to check in our motel and have some dinner. My stomach is still recovering so I’ve been taking it easy on the local foods. Breakfast is pictured here.. bread, meats, cheese, peach preserves and hot chocolate.

Life of a pilgrim

Everyday things. Wet socks drying on the radiator, elevating the legs at the end of the day, and checking the step/mileage count! I also included a video of how we fill our water bottles along the way.
